The Graduate Medical Education Program at Sovah Health is dually accredited (AOA and ACGME) and is dedicated to training physicians to be the best possible primary care physicians. The program began July 1, 2010 and is affiliated with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) and Osteopathic Medical Network of Excellence in Education (OMNEE), the regional postgraduate training institution.

The Mission of Sovah Medical Residency Program is to train and develop qualified, competent and compassionate physicians who are committed to addressing the health care needs of the community of Danville, VA and other underserved communities across the country.

  1. Maintain ACGME accreditation for our institution and residency programs (Family Medicine & Internal Medicine)

RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

The Sovah Medical Residency Program in Danville, VA is conducted in a large community health care facility and is part of the Duke/LifePoint HealthCare network. Residents provide comprehensive medical care for many of the underserved patients in the Danville region and receive exceptional training in ambulatory and hospital medicine. Our Family Medicine and Internal Medicine residency program directors work together to ensure an excellent educational experience for all learners so that residents do not have to compete for patients, procedures, or deliveries. The program provides patient-centric teaching that emphasizes practice-based learning, evidence-based medicine, and the importance of professionalism and effective interpersonal communication skills.

RESIDENCY FACULTY

The Sovah Health residency faculty members are hands-on, experienced, clinically active, osteopathic and allopathic physicians who are committed to providing the best possible learning experience for residents. The faculty strives to provide a patient-centric, evidence-based medicine educational experience. Residents are given primary patient care responsibility with faculty supervision to teach and to mentor.

Sovah Internal Medicine Residency Program is structured to provide residents with the fundamental knowledge and skills essential to the practice of internal medicine.

Medical Students
Sovah Health is a core site for medical students from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM).  Sovah Health also welcomes students for audition rotations from other affiliated medical schools.
