A heartfelt message

June 7, 2020

Sovah Health is committed to providing high quality care to our patients and serving our community. Our culture is important to us, and we have zero tolerance for actions that are inconsistent with our mission, vision, guiding principles and core values, especially behavior that is racist and discriminatory in nature.

Late last night Sovah Health was made aware of a post by an employee on their personal social media page that was distasteful and unacceptable. We are highly disappointed in this individual’s actions, which are not representative of our organization’s culture. We can state that the individual is no longer with our organization.

The issues of unconscious bias, microaggressions, and flat out racism are known issues across our country and in our community. For the past several years, we have been focused on the importance of living our core values. Racism and discrimination in any form is not tolerated. Sovah Health has been the beneficiary of tremendous support during this COVID-19-pandemic. We are committed to working together with community leaders and supportive organizations on each of these issues to be better and do better as we provide care for our community. Our actions will not simply be about this event. We are not sure where this will take us. We are committed to supporting work to proactively and positively move forward and address broader concerns that can and should be addressed.

We consider it a privilege to serve the healthcare needs of Danville, Pittsylvania County and the surrounding region, and we remain vigilant in our efforts to ensure Sovah Health continues to be a place where people choose to come for healthcare, physicians want to practice and employees want to work.
