Danville Regional Medical Center and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County today announced that they are expanding their collaboration, forming Sovah Health, a new regional medical center with two campuses -- one in Danville and one in Martinsville. Together as Sovah Health, the hospitals Danville Regional and Memorial Hospital will have new opportunities to more proactively and effectively respond to the healthcare needs of the region.
"Danville Regional and Memorial Hospital have collaborated for many years to make communities across Southern Virginia healthier," said Alan Larson, South Central Virginia Market President for LifePoint Health and CEO of Danville Regional Medical Center, who will serve as CEO of Sovah Health. "Becoming Sovah Health allows us to build upon this partnership in exciting ways, expand our services to meet the changing needs of our communities, adapt in the changing healthcare environment, and create exciting new opportunities for growth for our staff and providers."
Danville Regional and Memorial Hospital are both part of LifePoint Health. The two hospitals formed a regional healthcare delivery system, the South Central Virginia Market, in 2013. Over the past four years, they have worked together to increase their communities' access to high quality, comprehensive care close to home through coordination, consolidation and collaboration. The success of this partnership led to the formation of Sovah Health.
Named for the Southern Virginia region that both hospitals have called home for a combined 177 years, Sovah Health will serve a 7-county region across southern Virginia and northern North Carolina. Its Danville and Martinsville campuses will employ more than 2100 staff, have more than 200 physicians on active medical staff and serve more than 100,000 patients of all ages each year. Sovah Health's new structure will include a single Board of Directors, Medical Executive Committee and Patient Family Advisory Board with representation from both campuses and communities. Sovah Health offers a broad array of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services, including cardiology, oncology, preventative health and wellness, radiology, rehabilitation, surgical services and women's and children's services. The Danville campus features a 250-bed medical center and provides over 30 medical specialties. Martinsville is home to a 223-bed hospital with over 25 medical specialties.
"Sovah Health will allow Danville Regional and Memorial Hospital to advance our efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities," said Michael Ehrat, CEO of Memorial Hospital, who will serve as CEO of Sovah Health - Martinsville. "We've been successful hospitals, and we each have proud legacies. Together, we can create something that we could never achieve alone. We look forward to exploring with our staff, physicians and communities how we can transform the delivery of care and the health of people across this region and offer more high quality compassionate care close to home."
All contact information for Danville Regional and Memorial Hospital will remain the same and visitors will see no difference in access to either campus.
