Sovah Health is Making Communities Healthier. Here’s How.

This week, Sovah Health celebrates our 2nd anniversary, and we are proud to be a part of Danville, Martinsville and the surrounding areas. We believe that great communities – like this one – deserve great healthcare. As a leader in our community, we strive to provide the highest quality care possible – both inside and outside our hospitals’ walls – and are committed to our region’s overall well-being. That’s why our mission is Making Communities Healthier.

It is a mission that would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of our physicians, employees, volunteers and board members; and the support of people like you – patients and family members, employers, community leaders and others who believe in making our community healthier now and for future generations.

By supporting and partnering with us, we are able to make a significantly positive impact on our communities in a number of beneficial ways. The most critical of those is our ability to provide high quality care close to home. Quality and service are the foundation of our approach to care. Inviting the best possible providers into our community and investing in our facilities are key to ensuring that we are meeting our community’s healthcare needs effectively. In 2018, we added 13 new providers in orthopedic and general surgery, behavioral health, emergency medicine, wound care, occupational medicine and OB/GYN. We made $6.8 million in capital improvements, including a renovation and expansion of our emergency department in Danville and renovations of our operating rooms in Martinsville. In Danville, we added a state-of-the-art nurse call system, while Martinsville welcomed 3D mammography to the Julius Hermes Breast Care Center.  

Additionally, we believe that everyone deserves quality care, regardless of their ability to pay. Last year, we donated more than $15 million in health services to those in need.

An important component of quality care is creating places where physicians want to practice and employees want to work – places where their talent is recognized, their satisfaction is valued and where they can use their skills most effectively to treat those who come through our doors for care. Last year, we distributed more than $125 million in salaries, wages and benefits for our nearly 2000 employees, and provided them with more than $400,000 in professional development and tuition assistance so that they can continue to learn and grow in their fields and enhance the level of care available to you.

Supporting local organizations and being a fiscally responsible member of the community are both critical extensions of our mission beyond our hospitals’ walls. Last year, it was our pleasure to support a number of local activities and organizations, including Boys and Girls Clubs, Danville Parks and Recreation, Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer, God’s Storehouse, MHC Coalition of Health & Wellness, Miles in Martinsville and the Caring Hearts Free Clinic of Patrick County. Sovah Health additionally paid close to $3 million in taxes.
