EMS Week 2023 Recognitions - Stephanie Burton of Ringgold Volunteer Fire and Rescue
May 19, 2023
1. What is your current role?
I am currently the 2nd Lieutenant for EMS for Ringgold Volunteer Fire and Rescue. I am the chairperson over the candidate committee. I take care of the inventory for EMS supplies.
2. What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have family members that work in healthcare. Two that have made careers as nurses. I helped for years at Ringgold as part of the support group and saw that they needed help with the EMS calls. I decided to get my EMT license to help Ringgold and members of the community.
3. What is a typical day like for you working in this field?
I usually run calls in the evening or on weekends. I have a full-time job, in another field, that takes up my weekdays. I will hang out at the station and catch up on reports, run calls, check trucks, and make sure we have enough inventory of EMS supplies.
4. How long have you volunteered/been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been helping Ringgold for about 8 years. First with the auxiliary group then becoming an EMT. I have had my EMT for 3 years and the 2nd lieutenant position for 2 years.
5. What are some of you interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy fishing, reading, and working on my family farm. I also like to go to South Boston speedway and VIR to work and watch races. Smith Mountain Lake is my favorite getaway.
6. What do you enjoy most about your organization?
The people. I like the camaraderie at the station. Most people look out for one another and offer help when needed. I also like working with the community and the challenges that it offers.
