The United States Preventative Task Force recently changed recommendations for Lung Cancer Screening with low dose computed tomography of the chest (LDCT). If you are a man between the age of 50 and 80 and have a history of current or prior smoking, within the last 15 years, you may qualify for a LDCT to screen for lung cancer. This modality has allowed the early detection of small pulmonary nodules that can be followed or intervened upon before they become advanced lung cancer. Don’t hesitate to discuss this screening intervention with your primary care provider. This encounter may serve as an opportunity to discuss smoking cessation as well. Stay safe and don’t smoke!
