Sovah Health - Danville Announces DAISY Award Winner
August 19, 2026
Joan Cofflin, RN of Sovah Health – Danville was honored recently with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses, an international recognition program that celebrates nurses who provide exceptional clinical skill and compassionate care to patients and families.
Cofflin was nominated by a patient who shared how her calm presence and compassionate care helped turn what was one of the most frightening experiences of their life into one they felt they could get through.
After experiencing chest pain, the patient arrived for a scheduled stress test feeling extremely anxious. Cofflin took the time to explain each step of the process, using calm and reassuring words that helped ease the patient’s anxiety.
During the stress test, the patient began feeling ill after receiving the medication. Cofflin immediately recognized what was happening, administered medication to relieve the patient’s symptoms and placed a cool washcloth on their forehead until they began to feel better. The patient also recalled that when another patient needed assistance returning to X-ray, Cofflin immediately stepped in to help a coworker.
The patient expressed their gratitude for Cofflin’s care, saying they “couldn’t have been more thankful for the care” they received and describing her as an exceptional nurse whose compassion and professionalism made a lasting difference.
“Joan’s ability to remain calm, attentive and compassionate while caring for her patient is a wonderful example of the difference a nurse can make,” said Shelly Cordum, Market Chief Nursing Officer at Sovah Health. “We are proud to recognize her dedication and the meaningful impact she has on those in her care.”
