Sovah Health - Martinsville Announces BEE Award Winner
August 20, 2026
Christy Presley, an Emergency Department Technician at Sovah Health – Martinsville, was recently honored with The BEE Award for going above and beyond in support of a patient during her hospital stay. The BEE Award recognizes support staff members who go above and beyond to create a positive and compassionate experience for patients, families and colleagues.
Presley was nominated for her compassion and dedication while caring for a young patient during a difficult hospital stay. The nomination described how, after helping the child feel safe and comfortable, Presley spent a large part of her shift talking with her and providing reassurance.
The nominator shared, “At one point she climbed in the bed and just held her until she fell asleep.” They added that while Presley cares for all patients as expected, she “definitely went above and beyond with this child”
The BEE Award was established to recognize support staff members who consistently go above and beyond in providing compassionate care and outstanding teamwork. Alongside the DAISY Award, which honors nursing staff, the BEE Award celebrates non-nursing team members who make a meaningful difference in the patient experience.
“Christy demonstrated the kind of compassion and patience that can completely change a patient’s experience, “said Shelly Cordum, Market Chief Nursing Officer at Sovah Health. “She took the time to connect with this child, provide reassurance and simply be present when she was needed most. That willingness to go beyond her expected role is exactly what the BEE Award is meant to recognize.”
