Sovah Health would like to recognize these providers that have joined our organization over the last six months.
Lisa Bradner, FNP joins Sovah Family Medicine – Mount Hermon.
Lisa Bradner, FNP joined Sovah Physician Practices in December 2019 and is providing primary care for Sovah Family Medicine – Mount Hermon.
“We are excited to welcome Lisa to our team of providers at Sovah Physician Practices,” said Steven Evans, Manager of Physician Services at Sovah Health. “Her educational background and experience combined with a passion for her patients will help us to meet the healthcare needs of our region.”
Lisa received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Averett University (Danville, VA). She received her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) – Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain College of Nursing (Chicago, IL). Lisa is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
At Sovah Family Medicine – Mount Hermon, Lisa is specializing in primary care for children and adults, annual physicals, immunizations, high blood pressure, diabetes management, school physicals, and chronic disease management. Sara Weaver, NP joins Sovah Heart & Vascular
Sara Weaver, NP joined Sovah Heart & Vascular as a Nurse Practitioner in January and specializes in cardiovascular services including lipid management, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, congestive heart failure, patient education, anticoagulation management, as well as other services.
“Sara has been an asset at Sovah Health for many years and we are thrilled to have her serve in a Nurse Practitioner role taking care of our patients and community,” said Alan Larson, Chief Executive Officer of Sovah Health - Danville. “Her knowledge in cardiovascular health will help us continue to take our cardiology program to the next level.”
Sara received her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Walden University (Minneapolis, MN) and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Averett University (Danville, VA).

Dr. Guzman-Gawel brings women’s health expertise to Danville & Pittsylvania County
Fatima Guzman-Gawel, MD has joined Sovah Health’s medical staff effective May 1 and is providing Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) care at PATHS in Danville.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Guzman-Gawel to our team of talented OB/GYNs here in Danville,” said Alan Larson, Chief Executive Officer of Sovah Health – Danville. “We are committed to providing high quality, compassionate care for women in all stages of life, and Dr. Guzman-Gawel will be instrumental in helping us achieve that.”
Fatima received her Doctor of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine in Chicago, IL. As an obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Guzman-Gawel specializes in reproductive health, family planning, prenatal care and deliveries, peri-menopausal and menopausal issues, and minimally invasive gynecologic procedures. She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, UIC Chapter of Latino Medical Student Association, and American Medical Student Association.

Kelly Sparks, PA-C joins Spectrum Medical
Sparks, PA-C has joined Sovah Health’s medical staff May 1 and is offering orthopedic services for patients in Danville and Pittsylvania County and the surrounding region. Sparks has joined Spectrum Medical located in the River District Tower.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kelly Sparks to our team of established providers at Sovah Health,” said Alan Larson, Chief Executive Officer of Sovah Health - Danville. “His orthopedic background and expertise will be a valuable asset to this area and our patients.”
Kelly is a native Pennsylvanian who spent his summers with his grandparents in Virginia, prior to enlisting in the US Air Force as a Dental Assistant and Combat Medic. He was honorably discharged in order to attend school at Des Moines University in Iowa. He graduated and became a certified Physician Assistant in 2001.
Kelly’s diverse training and experience in Orthopedic Spine Surgery, Trauma, and Sports Medicine, as well as Emergency Medicine; has empowered him to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and appropriately refer patients for multiple musculoskeletal ailments, such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Low Back Pain. Kelly also assists the orthopedic surgeons in surgery, as well as in the clinic.
Kelly and his wife moved from southern Indiana to Danville, after hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Kelly is certified through the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. He is accepting new patients at Spectrum Medical located at 109 Bridge Street in Danville. Appointments and referrals may be made by calling 434.793.4711.
