August DAISY Award Winner
August 15, 2024
Erin Throckmorton, RN of Sovah Health – Danville was honored recently with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Erin, who works in the Women’s and Children’s department at Sovah Health – Danville’s campus, was nominated by a patient who credits the nurse for being empathetic and truly making her feel cared for. “Erin is the true definition of a nurse. I came in after a very traumatic incident and when I began to feel worthless, without even saying a word, Erin felt my pain. She asked me if I wanted to talk about it and I burst out in tears, weeping. Erin held me as if she was my mother and cried with me. She rubbed my back, encouraged me and made me truly, truly feel as if she cared. She comforted me and made me feel so much better.” Erin went the extra mile to help her patient feel at ease and the patient stated, “Thank you, Erin. You don’t know how much you saved my life just by being you!” Moments like this truly highlight what an extraordinary nurse Erin is.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
"When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Sovah Health are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
“At the heart of exceptional care lies the dedication and compassion of our nurses. We are incredibly proud to recognize Erin for going above and beyond in serving our patients,” said Lindsay Crumpton, Market Chief Nursing Officer at Sovah Health. “Erin exemplifies the true spirit of nursing, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to not only meeting the medical needs of our patients but also providing the emotional support and kindness that makes all the difference. This recognition is a testament to Erin's outstanding contributions and the profound impact she has on our community.”
